(the first emotions of love)

By Ciara Garcia

Lost in the constant motion of
leaves as I watch them fall to the
Earth in the most dignified way
Not too fast and with full confidence
They know how this is going to end
They accept it with the poise of a princess
They know when one of the needles touches
It will be rough
They will be stepped on
They will be torn and shredded
Some will get lucky and pressed in a book
While most will be pressed in the pavement
They don't know the outcome of their fall
All they know is how to fall
and they trust the process
Glancing over I see you
Gently picking a leaf up and letting it fall
Maybe I will follow in its path too
